Border Tutorial

When I posted my last card in the Daisy Yellow ICAD group a couple of people asked how I did the 3D border, so here is a quick step by step guide

ICAD Week 7

Wow I can not believe that we have completed week 7 of ICAD and that I am still managing to keep up. There is great support in the FB group which keeps us all motivated and we get the chance to see so many great cards. You can find the challenge here.

When I started this challenge I pretty much stuck to the prompts, however I am now only sometimes doing that and the rest of the time I am trying out new techniques.

Card #43

This is my favourite card of the week. It is a really easy technique, just draw radiating lines then curves on each one and colour in. The trick is in leaving the highlights when colouring. It comes out really 3D

Card #44

This is my challenge piece for the Diva's weekly Zentangle challenge also using 2 tangles only, a Duotangle using Cirquital and Opus

Card #45

We spent the day at The Open watching practice rounds and so I had golf on my mind. There is a tangled olf ball.

Card #46

I was watching Alice in Wonderland when I started this and got my inspiration from the Red Queen who is a baddy and has a red heart on her lips. I tangled in the background to give it some depth.

Card #47

I am trying collage again. I have watched a few videos on Youtube and it looks so easy. I am still struggling. what kind of pulled this one together was the white pen. I got this a while ago but this was my first chance to use it. It is a UNI POSCA paint pen, fabulous.

Card #48

Watching more golf on TV today so I had to do something that wasn't messy (!). This was done using a couple of metallic markers.

Card #49

More golf, more doodling, this time with fineliners.

Diva Challenge #127

The challenge from Laura this week was to produce a tile using 2 tangles only, a Duotangle using Cirquital and Opus.  You can see the challenge here.

I tried to do something different for this challenge. I kept it very open with lots of white space which was very difficult as I wanted to keep filling it in. I had to force myself to stop!

ICAD Week 6

I am continuing my journey taking part in the ICAD (index Card a Day) challenge. Creating mini pieces of Art each day.
Card #36

For this card I started randomly doodling arrows and I had almost finished the card when I thought it would be good to have some words as well.  I have always been a fan of Rumours by Fleetwood Mac and Go Your Own Way is one of my favourite tracks. It also seemed appropriate for the card! This one was done with Prismacolour pencils.

Card #37

I had arrows in my head (don't know why) so I ended up doing another arrow card, and another song. This time The only way is up - I remember the version by Yazz in the 90's. The colours turned out a bit more psychedelic than I had planned but I like it. I was practicing shading with acrylic paint.

Card #38 - Tangerine Dream

This was done with a bright orange fineliner pen. For some reason my scanner refused to make this orange and kept scanning it as red. I even tried to Photoshop it, but could not get the right colour.

Card #39

I had no plan when I started, I just got out some acrylic paints, a sharpie marker and a sakura gelly roll white pen. I an trying to do something a bit brighter. I tend to go for more muted colours, but I am seeing so many fantastic cards from others in the group that are bright and look great. My favourite part of this is the little Birdie Feet.

Card #40
I have seen lots of card where people have collaged and they look fabulous. So I thought I would give it a go. Oh dear this is so much harder than it looks. I found trying to pull it all together was hard. My colours don't really go, but Hey I gave it a try and next time I hope it will be easier.

Card #41

This card was lots of fun. I started by drizzling glue on a plain white card. I then left it to dry overnight as it has to be completely dry. I tried it once before it was completely dry and ended up with a big mess!  The final part was to wash watercolour over the top and use a damp paper towel to remove the paint from the glue which resists.

Card #42

Final card of the week and I was lacking inspiration. I had seen that quote and wanted to do waves. I must admit that I do not like the finished article. I knew what I wanted to achieve and it wasn't quite right, however this is all about experimenting and giving things a go so I posted it anyway.

Looking forward to next week.

Diva Challenge #126

The challenge this week from Laura at I am the Diva is to use a stencil as your string. I do not have many stencils but I had recently bought one from Creative Expressions which was a steampunk style.

I am posting my final piece but I do not really like it. When I started I did not have a plan and I think that was a mistake, What I don't like is the balance of tangles, they just don't seem to go together. If I had to do it again I think I would use a different mix of patterns.

ICAD Week 5

I am continuing my journey taking part in the ICAD (index Card a Day) challenge. Creating mini pieces of Art each day.

This week I was on holiday so only had access to limited art supplies. I ended up doing more Tangle patters this week which is where I feel most comfortable.

Card #28
The prompt today was my name. I painted a pearlescent background and Tangles my name. I only used tangles that started with the letter I was Tangling,  Flying Geese, Inapod, Oof, Neuron and Ambler

Card #29

The prompt today was Harry Potter. inspiration came from Harry's scar.

Card #30

The prompt for today was Pattern and Monochrome. I love Auranot. It looks very complicated but is really easy if you follow the steps and you can get great effects with it.

Card #31
More tangles. This time a Monotangle using MI2 which is a really fun tangle and benefits from shading. See here on my blog for before and after shading. http://time-to-tangle.blogspot.co.uk/2013/07/shading.html

Card #32
Neutral prompt. I had dyed a couple of cards with tea coffee and was waiting for them to dry when I had a very strange conversation with my teenage son about a spaghetti yeti. I thought...why not. When I finished it and showed him, he said it was much more like a Tagliatelli yeti, but that doesn't rhyme so I am sticking with spaghetti. :-)

Card #33a and b

I was using these cards for 2 challenges. ICAD and I am the Diva weekly Zentangle challenge. The challenge was to use the Tangle Birdie Feet.

Card #34

This card was due on the 4th July so as a number of our US friends were celebrating that day I Tangled the US Flag. Some colour this week at last.

Card #35
The final card this week. While out for a walk along the banks of the River Tay I saw lots of Red Clover flowering. So I have drawn a couple of flowers in pastels. It's strange this is called Red Clover because it is really a pinky purple.

Diva challenge #125 UMT Birdie Feet

I have not done a Diva challenge for a few weeks as I have been busy with the ICAD challenge. The challenge from Laura this week was a Use my Tangle, a new one I had not seen before called BirdieFeet. See the challenge here.

I tried to do something different for my first one I used the tangle in a similar way to IX. I also used it as a border of little feet.My scanner would not scan the entire border for some reason, it kept chopping bits off! Grr

'

The second card I did something more symmetrical. I liked using the tangle on the border in a small version and then much larger for the main pattern.

I wasn't sure about this pattern when I first saw it, but once again I have been put out of my comfort zone and enjoyed the process, thanks Laura.

Shading

I have been playing with shading today as part of my ICAD card for today.

I have no art training and when I started Tangling I had no idea about shading and the difference that it could make. However after dong challenges and seeing how others use shading I have learn a lot. Today I was playing with MI2 tangle.

This was my first card then I did another to try and show the before and after shading
